Sustainability at Hotel Haven

At Hotel Haven, we care not only about the wellbeing of our guests, but also about the wellbeing of the environment and our community. For us, sustainability is not just a rhetoric, but a genuine caring that is reflected in concrete actions, the success of which we continuously measure and develop. Take a closer look at our sustainability actions on this page.

Sustainable Travel Finland

For the travel and tourism industry to meet changing demand and secure its future, development must be sustainable. For this purpose, Visit Finland has developed the Sustainable Travel Finland programme for tourism businesses and regions and the Sustainable Travel Finland label.

Hotel Haven is proud to carry the STF label, which is awarded on the basis of strict criteria.

Green Key

Hotel Haven has been awarded the Green Key Finland environmental certificate by the international tourism industry's environmental programme Green Key Finland. The certification is decided by the Green Key Council, which consists of experts in corporate responsibility, sustainable tourism and environmental protection.

A Green Key hotel is committed to raising environmental awareness among staff and guests, improving energy and water efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of its accommodation operations. Green Key certified companies receive the internationally recognised Green Key label and programme support for their environmental work and communication.

WeCare

Together with our entire Strawberry hotel family, we at Haven are bound by a strong sustainability value base and commitment. This is what we call WeCare. We put people and the environment at the forefront of our business, and at Strawberry Hotels we implement consistent sustainability standards in every unit and throughout our supply chains. In addition, Haven's own WeCare team meets once a month to develop our own hotel operations in a more sustainable direction.

Sustainability actions that we are particularly proud of in Haven's everyday life

  • Finland has the cleanest water in the world, so we've given up bottled water and instead use Easy Water taps
  • We favour local products from our partners, such as baked goods from Kannisto Bakery, fish from the Baltic Sea and honey from Haven's own bees at Korpikuusikon Hunaja
  • We emphasise fish and vegetable products in our menus, such as at Havenly Brunch
  • We monitor food waste with our eSmiley system, and have managed to reduce waste by about 30 kg/week so far, with a steadily improving positive trend
  • The cleanliness of our rooms and public areas is taken care of by SOL Palvelut Oy, a local company that uses only Swan-labelled cleaning products
  • We have eliminated single-use products wherever possible – for example, our Byredo room cosmetics are in larger refill bottles instead of small bottles
  • We have replaced our guests' laundry bags with re-washable fabric alternatives and removed single-use plastic bags
  • Every employee is equally important to us and we hire skilled individuals – regardless of age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or any disability
  • We proudly display a Pride flag above our main entrance throughout the year

Collaboration for the Baltic Sea

Hotel Haven ❤️ Baltic Sea. In August 2023, we started working with the John Nurminen Foundation to participate in the protection of the Baltic Sea.

By serving Baltic Sea fish on our menus, donating part of the proceeds from our annual Baltic Sea Day stay campaign to the foundation and having a small selection of the foundation's products for sale in our lobby, we aim to show our love for the Baltic Sea throughout the year.

Havenly WeCare Team

Haven's wonderfully dedicated WeCare team meets regularly to discuss the development of sustainability actions in the hotel and how to better embed them into daily operations.
